SNP holds Glasgow Anniesland constituency

PA News
Bill Kidd will be returning to the Scottish Parliament (PA)

The SNP has held the Glasgow Anniesland seat as incumbent MSP Bill Kidd saw off a Labour challenge.

Mr Kidd will return to the Scottish Parliament after winning 17,501 votes, ahead of second-placed Scottish Labour candidate Eva Murray’s 10,932.

The result was the first to be declared from the Emirates Arena, where votes for all Glasgow seats are being counted.

In the 2016 election, Mr Kidd won 15,007 votes, some 51.7% of the total.

In his victory speech, Mr Kidd thanked SNP activists for their work, saying they had done a “fantastic job”.

He said: “I have to say that being elected again is something I’m extremely proud of.

“It’s something that you can never be sure of, you’ve got to put in the effort and make sure it gets there.

“What we have to do as far as I’m concerned is ensure that this is well known by the SNP and we have to make sure that we’re going forward for an independence referendum following these elections.”
