Boris Johnson’s warnings over possible impediments to reopening from the Indian variant of the coronavirus feature on most of the nation’s front pages.
The Daily Telegraph splashes on the Prime Minister saying the variant could disrupt plans to lift the last pandemic restrictions on June 21. It also reports the Duke of Sussex has been accused of a “woeful lack of compassion” over his latest interview.
Similarly, the Daily Mail says the Indian variant is a “threat to June freedom”, as do the Daily Mirror and The Guardian.
The i has a similar lead as does The Times, which also reports Greece, Italy and Portugal have opened their borders to UK tourists.
And The Independent says Mr Johnson has warned of “hard choices ahead” over reopening plans, while also reporting second doses of vaccinations will be sped up for the over-50s and the vulnerable in light of the Indian variant.
Elsewhere, Chancellor Rishi Sunak has told the Daily Express Britain can look forward to a “brighter future” as the economy recovers from the pandemic.
The Financial Times leads on tensions in the Middle East while also reporting on an investigation into the Gupta metals empire.
And the Daily Star says Russian officials have issued a warning about World War III after twisting a story the paper wrote four years ago.
