More on KentOnline
In recent years, many of us have developed a new-found appreciation for our gardens.
These outdoor spaces provide a haven for relaxation and enjoyment, and nothing complements a garden more than a lush, green lawn.
No matter the size of your garden, GreenThumb is here to help you achieve a lawn you can be proud of.
Clean Up
Over the winter months, leaves, twigs, and other debris can accumulate on your lawn, preventing healthy growth. A thorough clean-up will allow your grass to breathe and thrive as spring arrives.
Mowing
Regular mowing is essential for a well-maintained lawn. As temperatures rise, weekly mowing may be necessary. Keep your grass between 25mm (1”) and 40mm (1.6”) in length. While an occasional close cut is fine, repeatedly scalping the lawn can cause damage. In dry weather, raise the cutting height to 50mm (2”) to help the grass retain moisture and prevent it from drying out too quickly.
Aeration & scarification
Both aeration and scarification should be part of your lawn’s annual care routine.
- Aeration involves creating small holes in the lawn to allow water, air, and nutrients to reach the roots.
- Scarification removes excess thatch, which can make the lawn spongy and encourage moss growth. If your lawn feels dense and mossy, it’s a sign that scarification is needed.
Bare Patches
After a harsh winter, your lawn may develop patchy areas. To restore thickness and greenery, rake the affected area, sow grass seed with a light layer of topsoil, and water regularly. For successful germination, the ground temperature should be above 5°C.
Weed Control
As your garden flourishes in spring, so do unwanted weeds. Left untreated, weeds compete with your grass for sunlight, moisture, and nutrients, impacting the health and appearance of your lawn. GreenThumb’s expert treatments help manage weeds, transforming tired, weed-infested lawns into vibrant, healthy grass areas.
Lawns remain a key feature of our gardens, but every garden is different. GreenThumb, the UK’s leading lawn treatment service with over 38 years of expertise, helps customers maintain the lawn that suits their needs - whether it’s a pristine green sward to enhance flowerbeds, a space for socialising, or a play area for family fun.
For those looking to support wildlife, allowing certain areas of the lawn to grow longer can encourage bees and other pollinators. Whatever your lawn goals, GreenThumb provides tailored care to keep your grass looking its best.
GreenThumb offers three treatment programmes, starting with five treatments per year, using bespoke feeds, professional herbicides, and its unique Oasis water conserver.
Additional beneficial treatments are available depending on your chosen programme.
With GreenThumb’s year-round expertise, your lawn will receive the care and attention it deserves - giving you a green space to enjoy and be proud of.
