Aldi appeals for public help to pinpoint sites for new supermarkets

Aldi is inviting people to have their say on where they would most like to see a new supermarket.

The retailer is currently running more than 1000 stores across the country, but has a long-term target to add another 500 new shops to the business.

However in order to progress its rapid expansion plan Aldi is now turning to shoppers for help to pinpoint prime locations for new openings.

Aldi says while it has identified places across the country that may serve as potential new sites, it wants to call on the ‘invaluable input’ of the public to add other areas to the map.

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, explained why the business is trying to gather public support.

He said: “We want to make high-quality food accessible to all, but there are still some areas that either don’t have an Aldi or have potential for more stores.

“We’ve identified some key places where there is demand for more stores already, but now we are calling on the public to share their views. This will be used to help inform our property search over the coming years.”

Those wanting to put forward their town for further investigation should email nextnewstore@aldi.co.uk clearly stating their area, postcode and why that chosen place would benefit from a new Aldi store.

More details about Aldi’s site requirements can be found on its website here.

The company’s considerations for any new branch, explains the guide, include a potential catchment area of around 15,000 people and a minimum distance of 1.5km away from any existing store,

The supermarket is asking for all suggestions to be submitted by May 31 with a further update on its priority ‘wish list’ promised later this year.
