Lidl is recalling packets of chicken dippers amid fears they contain plastic.

The budget retailer and Food Standards Agency have both issued warnings and recall notices for the dippers because of a risk that pieces of hard blue plastic may have made their way into the food.

The Red Hen frozen range of battered chicken is affected by the safety alert – with packets at risk containing 25 dippers and weighing 450g.

Customers are being asked to check the boxes they have at home and return any in their freezer which have a best before date of February 2025.

The warning reads: “If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought or contact customer.care@lidl.co.uk or call 0203 966 5566 for a full refund.”

Customers will be given their money back, adds Lidl, regardless of whether or not they have a receipt.
