Cadbury desserts are being stripped from the shelves of supermarkets over fears they may contain listeria.

Müller is recalling thousands of Cadbury branded desserts over the ‘possible presence’ of the bacteria that can cause food poisoning.

The Food Standards Agency has issued a safety alert over the recall and is asking anyone with the affected products to not eat them.

There are six desserts affected by the recall. They are:

*Cadbury Daim Chocolate Dessert with a use by date of May 18

*Cadbury Crunchie Chocolate Dessert with a use by date of May 17

*Cadbury Flake Chocolate Dessert with a use by date of May 17

*Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons Chocolate Dessert with a use by date of May 18

*Cadbury Dailry Milk Chunks Chocolate Dessert with a use by date of May 18.

*Cadbury Heroes Chocolate Dessert – six pack - with a use by date of May 18

Eating foods contaminated with listeria can lead to food poisoning. Symptoms, according to the NHS, can include a high temperature, aches and pains, sickness and diarrhoea.

While most people will experience a mild illness and recover in a few days the infection can prove far more serious for vulnerable patients like newborn babies, the elderly, pregnant women, those with diabetes and others with weakened immune systems.

Signs, says the Food Standards Agency, have been placed in shops and supermarket aisles where the affected items have been sold warning customers to check items they may have at home.

Anyone who has bought one of the chocolate puddings now subject to the recall should return it to the store they bought it from – with or without a receipt – for a refund.
