When it comes to Marmite, it is said that you’ll either ‘love it or hate it’.
And judging by reaction to news that Walkers is discontinuing Marmite flavour crisps – many fans definitely love them.
After more than 20 years on the shelves the snack company has reportedly started phasing out the black-coloured bags of Marmite crisps.
Having discontinued the range at the end of last year - some packets currently remain on shop and supermarket shelves – but once current stocks have been sold it is understood no more will become available.
Described as the ‘god tier’ crisp flavour by one fan on X – formerly Twitter - fans have taken to social media in their droves to question its disappearance.
‘Just found out Walkers are discontinuing their Marmite flavour crisps. I am devastated. The best crisps’ wrote one, as another asked ‘Please tell me its not true that you are ceasing production of marmite crisps? The only crisps we love in our house... best flavour ever.’
While one fan of the unique flavour shared their chosen crisp pairing by writing: ‘This is the end of the world. This cannot be. These are delicious with pineapple.’
Explaining its decision to The Sun newspaper, Walkers said it will now ‘focus’ on making more of the crisps fans love the most.
A spokesman added: “We are very sorry to disappoint fans of Marmite flavour Walkers crisps with this news. We know many crisp lovers will hate to see this Walkers’ flavour go.”
Marmite is not the only flavour to have disappeared from the shelves in recent months.
In October 2023, it emerged that Worcester Sauce Walkers crisps, which came in purple bags were being discontinued.
This was followed in November by a further announcement, in which Walkers confirmed it was stopping making Salt and Vinegar flavour Quavers.
