New high-tech trains that well soon ferry thousands of travellers across London have been unveiled.
Images of the state-of-the-art new trains have been released by transport planners in the capital who hope to have the first carriages in service from early next year.
The 54 driver-less trains have a walk-through design enabling passengers to walk through the entire length of the train, will carry both the latest audio and visual real-time journey information, have air conditioning and mobile device charging points throughout.
They also promise to provide better facilities for those with mobility impairments with dedicated wheelchair spaces alongside multi-use areas designed to also accommodate passengers with pushchairs, bicycles and luggage.
Once they have undergone rigorous testing during overnight engineering works later this year the new stock will be introduced to DLR services in south and east London.
Thirty three of the trains will replace old rolling stock but 11 new trains have been built to increase capacity on the capital's network - with the new trains providing more frequent and direct services to Stratford alongside serving Canary Wharf and its thousands of commuters.
Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: "The DLR is a vital transport option for parts of our city, contributing to making the capital a more accessible place to live, work and visit as well as supporting new jobs and homes.
"With over 90 million journeys made each year it is currently the busiest light railway in the UK and its modernisation forms a key part of my vision to make London a greener, fairer and more prosperous city for all.
All the new DLR trains are expected to enter service by 2026.
