Homes who may qualify for a £150 energy bills discount are being urged to respond to their government letter asking them to provide more details.
Around three million households are estimated to qualify for the Warm Home Discount.
However there are concerns customers who have been sent a letter asking them to verify their details with the Warm Home Discount Helpline are yet to confirm their eligibility in order to claim the rebate.
People must respond to the request for information by the end of next month in order to claim their cash before this year’s scheme closes.
Minister for Affordability and Skills Amanda Solloway said: “I am urging people on low incomes who have been notified about the Warm Home Discount to make sure they act now to get £150 off their energy bill.
“Please check your letter and call our helpline before the end of February if you need to provide more information.”
The government-run Warm Home Discount offers targeted energy bill help for those deemed most in need. This includes low income pensioners and households with high energy costs.
The discount can be automoatically applied to a home’s energy bills between October 2023 and March 2024 – or is given as a top-up voucher for those using a prepayment meter.
But in order to verify everyone they believe is entitled, some customers were sent a letter at the end of last year, explaining the discount and how it works as well as instructions on the next steps they needed to take, which included contacting the helpline number.
Ministers believe there are many people entitled to the extra cash who are yet to ring the helpline number provided in the letter to confirm their information.
Any customer yet to respond, or who is unsure about their status, can call the general Warm Home Discount helpline on 0800 030 9322 for further details.
