More roads in the capital are set to be given new 20mph speed limits with Bromley among the south London boroughs next on the list.
Transport for London said lowering speed limits are a critical part of Mayor of London Sadiq Khan's plan to make the capital safer and greener.
There are now proposals to introduce 20mph limits on 40 miles of road across south London including in Bromley, Greenwich, Lewisham and Southwark from as early as September.
People hit by a vehicle at 20mph are around five times less likely to be killed than if they were hit at 30mph.
TfL is seeking people's views on the latest announcement - which is part of a wider project to lower the speed limit by 10mph on a further 140km of London's roads by 2024. More than 25 miles of road in the capital have either already been changed or are in the process of being slowed down.
The new 20mph limits being proposed, says TfL, would help to make a 'large area of south London safer and more attractive for people to live, work and play'.
It is also felt the change would encourage more people out of their cars and to walk, cycle or use public transport more often, which says TfL, would be vital 'in reducing congestion and air pollution'.
Roads set to be affected by the change - if given the go-head following consultation - include sections of the A20, A2 and A202.
The new speed limits would be supported with new signs and road markings while existing speed cameras would have their enforcement threshold changed to reflect the new limit.
Banners attached to street lights in the new 20mph areas would also be put in place to increase driver awareness.
Will Norman, London's Walking and Cycling Commissioner, said: "The facts are clear, a person hit by a vehicle at 20mph is five times less likely to be killed than at 30mph. We are determined to build a safer, greener London for everyone and the continued expansion of the 20mph programme on TfL roads is playing a vital role in making the capital’s roads safer for people to walk, cycle and use public transport."
