Adults wanting to cast their vote in next month’s elections are being urged to make sure they've got the correct ID before the deadline to apply for an alternative certificate runs out.
Anyone voting in person in next month’s local elections on Thursday, May 4 will need to show an accepted form of photo identification to cast their vote.
This can include driving licences, blue badges, certain types of travel pass or passports.
But those who wish to vote – and do not have one of the accepted forms of valid ID – must instead apply for a Voter Authority Certificate instead.
The deadline for applications is Tuesday, April 25 at 5pm and they can be made here.
Anyone who doesn’t apply by this deadline, and who doesn’t have an accepted form of ID to take to the polling station, will not be able to vote.
Levelling Up secretary Michael Gove said: “It’s vital you check now if you have the photo identification needed to vote in English local elections taking place in May.”
