Donations have flooded in to help the family of a man who became severely brain-damaged after a serious crash.

Aaron Wicks, 22, was driving in torrential rain from Ashford to Romney Marsh when the accident happened close to the old ironworks on Ashford Road, near Kingsnorth, on September 17.

It is not known what caused his car to collide with an oncoming car but CCTV reviewed by police apparently shows the vehicle hitting a drain cover.

He was travelling to his Clark Road home in Greatstone with Abbie Newing, his girlfriend of three years.

Miss Newing suffered broken bones but Mr Wicks suffered serious head injuries.

His mother, Dawn Wicks, spoke last week and told of her family’s grief.

They have spent thousands on rail tickets to King’s College Hospital in London to ensure Mr Wicks has interaction with relatives at least every other day.

He has minimal consciousness, which means he appears to be awake but cannot move or interact with people around him.

There is a chance that he may never wake up.

A JustGiving page has been set up in a bid to generate donations to help with travel expenses and Mr Wicks’ care.

Mrs Wicks said: “I want to thank everyone for their donations and the money.

“Some of it will go towards travel but I have opened a bank account for Aaron and the money will go in that, so hopefully when and if he needs things the money’s there.”

The page has been inundated with cash donations, and the figure continued to rise to more than £3,000 last week.

Mrs Wicks said the increase had been “amazing”.

She said: “Aaron has had so many setbacks with infections and brain surgery and every time he gets that it does set him back.

“He has had so many things against him but he keeps fighting back and with the extent of his injuries he shouldn’t really be here.”

Mr Wicks was a former pupil at Swadelands School, Lenham, and Canterbury College.
