A family from Romney Marsh are fundraising for a special helmet to help correct their baby's misshapen skull.

Little Rosie James, now three-months-old, has positional plagiocephaly, meaning the front, back and right side of her head are misshapen.

To help correct this, her parents are hoping to buy a cranial helmet, which could improve the shape of Rosie's skull as she grows.

Mum Lucy Baldock, from Greatstone, said: "Her skull is forcing through her forehead.

"The helmet will force the head to grow to the shape of the helmet, or at least try to make it more of a normal shape."

But as the expensive treatment is not available on the NHS, Miss Baldock and partner Derek James have launched an appeal for help to buy the helmet.

This could cost £2,500.

The couple, also parents to two year old Jessie, have set up an online fundraising page and are planning fun days and raffles to help reach their target.

But mum Lucy also wants to start a petition calling for the treatment to be rolled out across the NHS.

Miss Baldock, 32, said: "As the NHS class this as cosmetic, this helmet is only available going private.

"But if the helmet was available on the NHS children would be bullied less over this condition.

"As a parent I fear if I do not do this for Rosie, she will surely be bullied."

The online GoFundMe age adds: "The helmet is not available on NHS and we need to go to London to get her personalised helmet.

"With all the love and help we have been given we have decided to set up this page to help us get what we need to help her.

"We will also be doing fun days, sponsored walks, anything else we can think of and we will have charity boxes available in local shops.

"Any amount raised over what we need will be donated to Great Ormond Street Hospital as they helped us when Rosie was born very early."
