A young man who died after getting into difficulties in the sea yesterday has been named.

Police confirmed 19-year-old Gustavo Silva Da Cruz was found dead at the scene on Camber Sands beach yesterday evening.

Mr Silva Da Cruz, originally from Brazil, was visiting family in Croydon and had gone down to the Sussex beach and is thought to have drowned.

Rescue teams from the coastguard, RNLI, police and search and rescue were called after Mr Silva Da Cruz and two other swimmers got into trouble.

The other two people have today been revealed as a 35-year-old man and his 17-year-old son, both from London.

The pair, who are not connected to Mr Silva Da Cruz, are still described as being in a critical but stable condition, a Sussex Police spokesman said.

They were pulled from the water and rushed to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

Despite the efforts of the rescue teams, Mr Silva Da Cruz was found at 6.20pm and pronounced dead at the scene.

Sussex Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been informed.

It is believed he was visiting his father and family who live in Croydon, south London.

An appeal has been set up for Mr Silva Da Cruz's family to help get his body home.

The online fundraising page was set up today to help the family send his body back to Brazil with friends hoping to raise money.

The victim has been named as 19-year-old Gustavo Silva Da Cruz

The page, set up by Amanda Martins, has already raised more than £1,300.

She wrote: "After the sudden and tragic death of the 19 years old Gustavo Cruz we would like to offer our love and support to his dad Gutenberg Cruz and his family.

"Gustavo was in the UK to visit his father and family who are originally from Brazil.

"Gustavo was raised in Brazil by his grandparents and mother. For this reason the family needs to send Gustavo's body to Brazil.

"Unfortunately this kind of procedure has a very high cost which the family is not prepared for. We come via go fund to try and help Gutenberg who always has been there for many of us."

A Coastguard spokesman said yesterday: "UK Coastguard is coordinating an incident at Camber Sands after a number of people got into difficulty in the water.

"One casualty has been transferred to hospital by Coastguard helicopter and a second person has been taken to hospital by ambulance.

"Coastguard Rescue Teams from Dungeness and Rye, Coastguard rescue helicopters from Lydd and Solent, Rye RNLI lifeboat, beach lifeguards and police are currently searching for a missing person last seen in the water."
