Body found in search for missing pensioner near St Mary's Bay, Romney Marsh

A body has been found in the search for a missing 76-year-old woman.

It comes after police launched an urgent appeal to the public to help locate Lorna Jeffrey, who had last been seen at about 9pm yesterday in the area of Jefferstone Lane, St Mary’s Bay, on Romney Marsh.

In an update this afternoon, police said officers had found the body of a woman in countryside near St Mary's Bay. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A police spokesman said: “Formal identification has yet to take place, but the family of a 76-year-old woman from Romney Marsh, who had been reported missing earlier that morning, have been informed.

“The death is not currently being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner.”
