Two brothers who wanted to get a selfie with their car on the beach were left feeling red-faced when their BMW had to be towed after getting stuck in the sand.

The car was driven onto the beach at Dymchurch, on Romney Marsh, by Luke Felgate, 19, who was in the area for a work meeting with his brother Aaron Smyth.

But they found themselves in a spot of bother when the wheels got stuck in a sand trench, much to the delight of amused onlookers, leaving them trapped on the beach for an hour and a half.

Aaron, 20, said his brother drove onto the beach yesterday to get a picture for 'the gram', meaning social media site Instagram.

He posted several videos of the drama to Facebook page Dymchurch UK.

They show the men trying to unwedge the car using wood.

Aaron, from Clacton on Sea in Essex, said: "Me and my brother came for a conference and he only wanted to go get “a pic for the gram” as he said.

"I told him not to do it and this is what happens. MUPPET."

The pair were rescued when a 4x4 drove down the ramp - used by boats - at the beach to tow them out.

But they attracted quite a crowd, with onlookers gathering and watching the funny scenes play out.

Aaron, a leisure manager for a holiday company, said: "I want to thank the people who towed us out for their help on Luke's behalf.

"And I want to thank the spectators because we was having a great time."

Commenters made light of the fail on Facebook.

One posted: "Ahh man that could have been our first sinker of 2019!"

Another said: "Priceless, glad it was only a quick tow out and not the full underwater dunking we normally get."

This is not the first time vehicles have become trapped on Kent's beaches.

A Fiat 500 become wedged at Sunny Sands in Folkestone after the driver took a wrong turn down a ramp towards the sea.

And the team behind a fashion shoot on Dungeness ran into trouble when their van became wedged in the shingle for four hours.
