Fire at care home in Lydd High Street

Residents at a care home have been treated by paramedics after a fire.

Firefighters were called shortly after midnight to the blaze in the basement of The Paddocks in High Street, Lydd.

The fire started in a bathroom but three people needed treatment.

Two were suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke while a third had breathing difficulties.

Crews in two fire engines spent around two hours tackling the fire wearing breathing apparatus and a high pressure hose reel jet to put out the flames.

The building was then ventilated to clear the smoke.

An electrical safety engineer from UK Power Networks was called along with the Hazardous Area Response Team from Secamb (South East Coast Ambulance)

No other injuries were reported.
