A crash between a 14-year-old boy on a bike and a car on a main road this morning has triggered an emergency response.

The accident happened at about 9.15am in Dymchurch Road near the Sainsbury's supermarket junction in New Romney.

Eye-witness district Cllr Susie Govett said: "There were a lot of people standing around and what looked like a young child, they looked unwell.

"The car had been moved to the side of the road and traffic flow returned to normal."

One police car was at the scene with officers attending the injured person - ambulance services shortly followed.

South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman Richard Airey said: “At 9.16am reports came in of a crash between a vehicle and a boy.

“We sent a car and an ambulance and the child has recently been taken to William Harvey Hospital in Ashford for treatment.

“We had a car on the scene in 20 minutes and an ambulance two or three minutes after that.

“It was a category-two incident which we look to attend within 18 minutes.”

Police spokesman Sally Smith added: “Police were called to Dynchurch Road, new Romney at 9.17am on Tuesday, 10 July 2018, following a report that a cyclist and a car had been involved in a collision.

“South East Coast Ambulance Service were called to treat a 14-year-old boy who reportedly suffered a leg injury.

Officers are currently on the scene, she added.
