Double yellow lines were painted on a road...after motorists were already parked up.

A delivery driver sent KentOnline the image of a Citroen Picasso in Seabourne Way, Dymchurch, yesterday afternoon.

The council worker had tried to continue the yellow lines underneath it, but they were not as consistent as they are seen elsewhere.

The driver, who didn't want to be named, said: "I don't know when they did the painting, but when I looked in my rear view mirror I thought 'I don't believe it.'

"They couldn't get underneath the cars.

"They obviously didn't warnings put out before they did it."

A Shepway District Council spokesman said: "We try to ensure that roads are free of parked cars before we start lining.

"In a small scheme like this, with only a few meters of lining, we knock on doors to see if we can identify the owners of the cars.

"In this case it was not successful so we painted under the cars to try and discourage other drivers from parking there and will return next week to complete the work.

"No parking tickets will be issued until the lining is complete."
