Driver’s lucky escape after car flips into ditch in Burmarsh

A driver had a lucky escape this morning after their car overturned and ended up in a ditch.

Pictures show the vehicle part-submerged in a bog which runs alongside Eastbridge Road, near Burmarsh.

Police and fire crews attended the incident – but said no one was located at the scene.

The images show a hedge appears to have been flattened in the crash and police tape now covers the gap.

The road was blocked in both directions during rush hour and one eyewitness said there were at least six emergency services vehicles in attendance.

Police were called at 6.40am and officers attended the incident where “no injuries were reported”.

A spokesman said the car will be recovered.

Firefighters were also called to the scene at 7.10am assist the police.

A spokesman said: “Two fire engines and the water safety unit attended, and crews used specialist cutting equipment to gain access to the vehicle.

“No persons were located at the scene.”
