Shocking footage has captured the moment a dad was almost wiped out by a speeding Audi A3 as it recklessly overtook another car.
Darren Madden says the vehicle missed him by a couple of inches as he returned to his vehicle from a shop in New Romney High Street - and he believes the incident could have been fatal.
The 51-year-old, who has no use of his hands or arms, can be seen going to open the driver’s door of his car moments before a red Audi overtakes on the wrong side of the road.
He says if the car had been a second later, he “would not have been here to tell the tale”.
Police are investigating the incident on Wednesday, May 29, at 12.51pm.
Mr Madden said: “I was walking back to get into my car and this other vehicle overtook another driver and missed me by a couple of inches.
“I felt a draught, and I was quite shaken.
“I had looked the other way to see if any cars were coming as that is the way traffic is meant to come along the road.
“I had no reason to look the other way as you do not expect cars to come along that side of the road.
“He was doing at least 50mph because it was such a small space for him to overtake, so he must have been going fairly quick.
“It could have been fatal.”
A couple of days after the near-miss, the dad-of-one says he remembered a nearby shop had CCTV outside so he requested the video.
The horrifying footage shows how close the Audi came to hitting the dad-of-one, who has arthrogryposis - a rare condition which causes joints to be fixed in a bent or straightened position.
“I am disabled and I have a piece of seatbelt tied on my door handle which I have to put my hand in to open it,” the volunteer driver added.
“I have no use of my hands or arms so I put them through the loop so I can pull the door open and I drive my car with my feet.
“If he had been a second later, he would have wiped me out.
“I would not have been here to tell the tale - I am pretty sure of that.”
Police have been contacted for more details about the near-miss.
