Andrew Maloney from Lydd, Romney Marsh charged with firearms offences in Harbour Street, Folkestone

A man has been charged with firearms offences following a reported disturbance outside a bar.

Police investigating the alleged firearms offence in Folkestone have charged 50-year-old Andrew Maloney.

The man from The Derings in Lydd was arrested in London on Sunday.

He has subsequently been charged with assault and two counts of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause violence.

The charges relate to a reported disturbance outside Gillespies bar in Harbour Street on Saturday, January 19, during which a man alleged being threatened with a weapon at around 1.40am.

Firearms officers were called to the scene near to Parade Steps and Beach Street.

Despite an extensive search of the area no suspect was found and no weapon was recovered.

As part of the ongoing investigation a car was seized from the area of Cyrol Road in Ashford on Thursday, January 24.

Mr Maloney has also been charged with driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

He has been remanded in custody until a later date after appearing at Medway Magistrates Court today.

Detectives investigating have made a number of enquiries and issued CCTV images to assist with their appeal for information.

Officers still want to identify the man in the CCTV image above, who may be able to assist them with further information.
