A passenger on a light railway in Kent died at a train station following a heart attack.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene at New Romney station, part of the popular Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway (RHDR) tourist attraction, after the man fell ill.

Officers and medics were called to Littlestone Road just after 3.20pm yesterday, with the emergency response including one ambulance and two paramedic cars, as well as Kent Fire and Rescue Service responders.

SECAmb press officer Rich Airey confirmed that the emergency service was called following reports of a person in cardiac arrest.

He said: "Unfortunately, attempts to resuscitate the man were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene."

Mr Airey expressed thanks to a doctor who provided CPR to the man before paramedics arrived, and any others who attempted to save his life before crews arrived at the station.

A spokeswomen for RHDR said: "The Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway expresses it’s deepest condolences to the family and friends of a passenger who fell ill at New Romney Station on Monday, August 13.

"Despite the best efforts of South East Coast Ambulance Service, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Kent Police, Civil Nuclear Constabulary and our first aiders, the gentleman passed away.

"Our thoughts are with the family at such a difficult time."
