A motorhome left abandoned in a field for two years was set alight, sparking a police investigation.

Fire crews were called to Station Approach in Littlestone, New Romney, at about 5pm on Saturday evening.

A resident said the vehicles have been abandoned in the field since 2020

Police say no one was injured in the blaze – which also torched an old lorry cab – but officers are currently treating the fire as suspicious.

A resident in New Romney told KentOnline the motorhome has been abandoned since 2020.

Full planning permission was sought for two mobile homes and two touring caravans to be situated on the land in Station Approach.

The application was submitted at the end of 2021 and validated in March this year, but a decision is yet to be made.

The homes would be used by a single travelling gypsy family, according to the application.

Police say the incident is being treated as suspicious

Two fire engines were sent to the blaze on Saturday.
