The first signs of spring are starting to show as adorable lambs have been born on Romney Marsh.

Pictures show the cute babies staying close to their mums as they enjoy a bit of sunshine.

While technically the season doesn't start for another few weeks, the birth signifies the end of what has felt like a long and gruelling winter.

It might seem a little early for the animals to appear but according to Countryside Online, they have actually arrived right on time.

It says lambing can sometimes start as early as December in some parts of the country but for the majority of farmers, the season will begin in February and run until April.

The reason we only see the new borns make an appearance in the spring is because unlike other animals, ewes are only in season once per year and this is in the Autumn.

Then after a four and a half month pregnancy, the lambs make an appearance at the turn of the season.
