Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of burglary after beach huts were broken into overnight.

Police were called to the huts in Grand Parade, Littlestone, just before 10pm following reports burglars were targeting the area.

Officers found three beach huts had been targeted and two people were later arrested nearby.

A 15-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy were both arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Police say the girl has been released pending further inquiries but the boy remains in custody.

One of the huts targeted belonged to photographer Susan Pilcher who says she is “furious”.

The Littlestone resident, who has rented the hut for two years, said: "They broke in, had a poke around, drank some of my Buck’s Fizz and damaged the doors.

"This is the first time my hut has been damaged but we have had similar incidents in the past.

“We pay the council £240 a year to rent the space here and now I have to pay out of my own pocket to repair mine.

"I was out speaking to officers at the scene at midnight. It's unacceptable that this is happening.

"I'm not sure if anything was stolen out of the other huts, but I'll have to pay for new doors and new locks."

In November, beach hut owners were told to be on their guard after a number of padlocks were cut in Greatstone.
