Six cars have been targeted by opportunists sparking a reminder from police for people to secure their belongings.

The warning comes after the spate of break-ins in the Romney Marsh area from the evening of Wednesday, July 6 and Thursday, July 7.

Items were taken from three of the six vehicles.

One happened outside a house in Seabourne Way between 6pm on Wednesday, July 6 and 7am on Thursday, July 7 where tools from a van were taken.

It also happened on the driveway of a house in Victoria Road, New Romney between 10.30pm on Wednesday, July 6 and 8.10am on Thursday, July 7 and tools were again taken.

Two vehicles were broken into in St Marys Gardens, Romney Marsh, between 7pm on Wednesday, July 6 and 6.30am on Thursday, July 7. Nothing was taken.

A van was broken into in Tritton Gardens, Romney Marsh, between 4.45pm on Wednesday, July 6 and 7.20am on Thursday, July 7. Tools were taken.

A car was broken into in Eastbridge Road, Romney Marsh, between midnight and 1am on Thursday, July 7. Nothing was taken.

Tips released by the police to reduce their chances of a break in include:

• Ensuring that all doors and windows are locked.
• Parking in a secure, well-lit area.
• Not leaving items on display and remove valuable items, including tools, overnight.
• Ensuring the vehicle's alarm or immobiliser is switched on, if you have one.
• Not leaving keys visible from outside your home.
• Listing valuables such as sat navs onwww.immobilise.com. This is a free service that helps officers return stolen items if they have been found or seized.
• Security marking items so they can be identified when found or seized.
