Police are hunting a man who reportedly tried to coax a 12-year-old-girl into his car.

The incident happened at the bus stop in Williamson Road in Lydd.

A man in a white saloon car with a taxi sign on the roof stopped beside her and offered her a lift.

But after the girl refused and pretended to be on her mobile phone, he drove off towards Greatstone.

The incident happened just before 5pm last Thursday, June 15.

Sergeant Craig Chalmers-Stevens said: "We are keeping an open mind as there could be a completely innocent explanation.

"But the girl was shaken by the incident and we are keen to establish the circumstances.

"Shortly before the man approached the girl, she saw two girls about her age get out of his car.

"We are keen to speak to them as they could help our enquiries."

The man, who was described as Asian, was clean-shaven with short brown hair.

Sergeant Chalmers-Stevens continued: "The man asked her which way she was going and offered her a free taxi ride.

"When she declined and pretended to make a phone call he drove off towards Greatstone."
