This is the moment a startled mouse climbed from under the bonnet of a car on the motorway - and started running up and down the windscreen wipers.

Mouse runs along windscreen wipers on M25

Sally Hall, from St Mary's Bay in Romney Marsh, was driving her horse box van on the M25 when she suddenly spotted the furry daredevil.

The cheeky rodent gave Sally a shock as it emerged and ran up and down the wiper blade as they drove along the motorway at 55mph.

He had disappeared back into the engine compartment before Sally was able to rescue him at their destination and set him free.

The video was shot by the mum on the M25 as she travelled from New Romney to Dartford on October 10 last year, while on route to a dressage competition.

The tenancy sustainment officer said: "Our horse box hadn't been used for a few weeks and had been parked next to a playing field so I think he must have come from there.

"He gave us a shock - I was so worried he was going to jump off.

She added: "Being an animal lover, I couldn't bear it if I'd watched him hurt himself.

"We were at least half way through our journey and on the M25 when he appeared, so I guess he'd tucked himself away quite safely.

"Knowing that he'd gone back into the engine compartment gave me more hope that he would be ok.

"It wouldn't have been safe for us to stop, so we were pleased that he hung on until we reached the showground and then we could let him free in the fields there."
