Detectives are appealing after two burglaries were reported in the same street in New Romney last night.
The break-ins in Rolfe Lane are being linked and police have warned residents to be on their guard.
It comes after flats were targeted in the road in the early hours of this morning and jewellery, cash, laptops and a mobile phone were stolen.
Police say the incidents happened between 2am and 3am.
Det Con Chris Brett, who is leading the investigation, said: "In both cases we believe that the intruder gained access through a ground floor window.
"In one burglary three jewellery boxes and a handbag containing a purse, cash and keys were stolen. In the second the offender stole two laptops and bags, a mobile phone, a handbag and keys."
He appealed to any witnesses who noticed anybody acting suspiciously in the Rolfe Lane area in the early hours.
In particular they are keen to find out more information about a man who was wearing grey jogging bottoms and a dark top and was seen nearby.
Det Con Brett also offered advice urging people to make sure their homes stay secure.
"Check doors and windows are locked and that you have working security lights," he said.
"Use timers to turn interior lights or a radio on and off and light dark or hidden entrances.
"We also advise people to register all valuables items. Logging details helps us return the items to you if we find or seize them."
To register items go to www.immobilise.com and for more information about home security go to www.kent.police.uk
