A busy coast road has been shut in both directions following a crash this afternoon.

Traffic wa queuing on the A259 between the B2075 in New Romney and the Ivychurch turn off in Old Romney via Five Vents Lane.

The route on the Romney Marsh is a through road for those heading to the coast and delays have been reported in the area, with traffic at one stage at a standstill near the scene of the collision.

The incident is understood to have happened shortly after 2pm and emergency services were called to the scene.

It has not been confirmed if anyone has been injured in the crash, but it is understood two vehicles were involved. The road was re-opened shortly after 4pm and queues were easing.

It is the latest significant crash on the county's roads today, following smashes on both the M2 and M20.
