Crews called to field fire next to railway in St Mary’s Bay, Dymchurch

Firefighters were called after a field next to a railway caught alight.

The blaze happened in St Mary’s Bay near Dymchurch at about 4.17pm yesterday alongside the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch steam track.

Two engines were at the scene until 4.38pm.

A fire service spokesman said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called at 4.17pm on Monday 24th June to reports of a fire in Jenner’s Way, St Mary’s Bay.

“Two fire engines attended and crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames on the railway embankment.

“The cause is not yet known but is not believed to be deliberate.”
