A fisherman was rescued after severing his finger while on-board a vessel off the Kent coast.

Volunteer lifeboat crews in Dungeness were called to the craft half a mile east of their seaside base at about 7.35am.

When they arrived at the scene two minutes later, they found the man had suffered a crush injury and needed medical assistance.

Lifeboat coxswain Stuart Adams said: "The casualty was in good spirits and did the right thing in calling the UK Coastguard for assistance.

"We wish him a quick recovery."

The volunteers brought the man back to the lifeboat station in Dungeness Road, where a team of paramedics tended to the patient, before taking him hospital.
