Romney Marsh’s own flag will be officially launched at the New Romney Country Fayre .
It will happen at the formal opening of the event at St Martin's Field, Fairfield Road, at 11.15am on Saturday, July 25.
The Romney Marsh Standard was created from a competition launched three years ago the arts group IMOS foundation.
A total 60 entries came in and they were shortlisted to six by artists and the then New Romney Mayor Roger Joynes.
Dymchurch artist Dee Taylor’s entry was declared the winner out of the six in July 2013 after a public vote.
Since then the flag has been displayed as a painting at the Sainsbury’s car park in New Romney.
It has images typifying the Marsh such as the New Romney’s St Nicholas Church tower, the two Dungeness lighthouses, a fishing boat, a Martello Tower and a Romney breedsheep, a kingfisher and a heron.
Although it is not being officially launched until next month’s Fayre, 200 of the 300 made have already been bought by eager members of the public.
Briony Kapoor creative director of IMOS, said: “It has been a marvellous success already and we are going to have to make more.
“One man said he wanted to be buried in it. I was taken aback at first but then touched. It shows the strong feelings people have for the Marsh.”
The IMOS Foundation, is behind several striking artworks in Romney Marsh.
Mrs Kapoor, who will formally open the Fayre, has also become a town councillor after this May’s elections.
New Romney Country Fayre, now in its 21st year, begins with a parade from the Marsh Academy in New Romney.
This goes along the High Street to St Martin's field and the whole event ends at 5pm.
The flag can still be bought for £10 by contacting IMOS on 01797 363099 or emailing enquiries@imosfoundation.org.
