A road has been closed in both directions after smoke was seen issuing from an electricity pole.
Dungeness Road is closed from the junction with Kerton Road to the roundabout at Lydd while engineers work to fix the problem.
Fire crews were called to the scene just before 2pm.
A spokesperson for the fire service added: "One fire engine attended, however no firefighting operations were required and crews helped to make the scene safe.
"Duty of care was left with UK Power Networks."
Firefighters left just after 4pm but police remain at the scene to assist with the road closure.
Heavy traffic is building and it is not clear how long the issue will take to fix.
Six residents have been left without power as a result of the issue.
A spokesperson from UK Power Networks added: "Engineers are working as quickly as possible to complete repairs to the overhead electricity network in the Dungeness Road area of Lydd so we can reopen the road and reconnect power supplies to six remaining properties.
"Following a fault on the overhead electricity network, we initially needed to turn off supplies to 181 customers at 2.41pm today.
"Power was rerouted to all but six customers in stages by 4.31pm and a road closure remains in place while our team safely complete the repairs.
"We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused."
