Lifeboat crews were called to a medical emergency nine miles at sea this morning.

Dungeness RNLI volunteers were paged just after 9am to an angling vessel with a sick passenger that needed assistance south of Dungeness Point.

The passenger was experiencing a medical episode and UK Coastguard tasked the lifeboat to bring them to shore for treatment.

The lifeboat launched at 9.30am and the casualty vessel headed towards land so that the lifeboat could meet the vessel in good time.

The casualty was passed to the RNLI crew, who provided care on the lifeboat before handing them into the care of emergency first responders and the ambulance service at shore.

Coxswain, Jason Adams says: “The skipper did the right thing today in hailing UK Coastguard for assistance. He had the right equipment on board – a VHF radio, that allowed him to call for help. The casualty was checked over by the ambulance service and we wish him well.”
