Smoke seen for miles on Romney Marsh due to large field fire outside New Romney

Smoke could be seen for miles on Romney Marsh this afternoon due to a field fire.

The large blaze broke out on farmland off Dymchurch Road, next to the Marlie Holiday Park.

Firefighters were alerted shortly before 1.30pm.

The flames had spread to an area of stubble and reeds, but crews were able to dampen down the fire and prevent it from reaching further afield.

No casualties were reported and firefighters left the scene at about 3.15pm.
