An electricity pole has snapped, plunging almost 60 properties into darkness on Romney Marsh.

The incident happened just before midday in in the Moore Close area of Brenzett.

A spokeswoman for UK Power Network said: "Our engineers are working as quickly as possible to restore power to 58 customers in the Moore Close area of Brenzett, New Romney.

"We needed to turn off supplies at about midday to safely repair some electrical equipment which was damaged in high winds.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and engineers are working hard to reconnect all supplies."

Power is estimated to return before 2.30pm.

The weather has also forced the police to activate Operation Stack.
