The last day of trading will be in January following a closing-down sale.

Owner Steve James addressed loyal patrons of the New Romney business, saying: “It’s with great sadness, and the hardest decision I’ve had to make, that Romney Cycles will be closing its doors.

“It’s been a very tough year for a lot of small bike shop businesses with many having to close.

“We were hoping to ride that storm but it’s no longer viable to keep going.

“It’s so important to support local businesses on your high street, especially those that provide a service to local communities.

“There are some things you just can’t buy online.

“The friendliest bike shop for miles.”

Jimi William added: “I am sad to hear this but also hope that it's the start of a fun new era for you.

“I will always be thankful to you for going out of your way to make me feel welcome in cycling as a newbie.

“Walking into cycling shops was, and still is, an intimidating experience for me.

“I always went to you for making it such an insightful and rewarding experience.”

Similarly, Jonathan Finn-Kelcey wrote: “I am so sad to hear this.

“I can honestly say it's been a real pleasure for me to walk into your fantastic shop.

“It's a loss to all of us. In fact, I don't know how we will manage without you.

“Thank you for everything you and your family have done for me.”

Stephen Jones said: “This is a loss to the cycling community of the town but as one door closes another opens.”

Romney Cycles, located next to Esso in the town’s high street, has been there for more than 30 years and specialises in both bike sales and hire.
