A woman has been injured and a main road was partially blocked after a three-vehicle crash.

Traffic built up following the accident at the junction of the A259 and Romney Road near New Romney.

The front of one car, a grey Mercedes, was severely damaged, while a 4x4 left the road.

A witness said: "We were let through and it looked like the 4x4 may have been on fire.

"I could see smoke rising from it and they were spraying it with a fire extinguisher."

A police spokeswoman said: "Police received a report of a collision involving three cars at 11.10am.

"Officers are attending the scene along with the ambulance service. A woman has reported injuries."

As of 1.15pm, it was reported that the road had been cleared.

The ambulance service has been contacted for comment.
