A man has been charged with drink driving after two people had to be cut from the wreckage of a crash in Lydd last night.

Both casualties were taken to hospital after firefighters freed the pair following the crash on Coast Drive in Lydd-on-Sea.

The incident happened at 6.15pm and crews were at the scene until 7.30pm.

Police arrested and charged a 52-year-old New Romney man after the crash who was driving the other car.

He is Harold Hills, of Dymchurch Road, and was released on bail to appear before Folkestone Magistrates on Monday, December 7.

One person was recovered from each vehicle as crews from New Romney, Dymchurch and a rescue ladder crew from Folkestone were called to the scene.

They used hydraulic equipment to create a space where paramedics could work to give them treatment.

South East Coast Ambulance's HART (Hazardous Area Response Team) crew were also called.

The woman was taken by a road crew from the air ambulance to Kings College Hospital in London suffering from suspected pelvic injuries.

A man in his 20s was also taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, a spokesman for Secamb said.
