Manager Scott Porter hailed a perfect day as Lydd thumped Welling Town to continue their play-off charge.

The Lydders won 7-0 away on Saturday to record a sixth victory in seven Southern Counties East games.

They’re up to seventh place, six points behind Erith Town in the final play-off spot, with a game in hand.

Luke Burdon and Sammy Adams struck before half-time, with Mitch Brundle, Harvey Welford and Kenny Pogue on target before a late double from debutant Jack Shonk.

“All the pressure was on us going to a team at the bottom of the league,” said Porter.

“We weren’t great for 25 minutes but once we scored it settled us down and we didn’t look back.

“Two-nil at half-time can be a dodgy scoreline but we came out and got another quickfire couple of goals.

“We were a joy to watch and there were so many positives.

“We’ve got a clean sheet, scored seven goals, Jack Shonk has scored a couple on his debut, we shared the goals around and the whole squad played its part.

“It was the perfect day, to be honest.

“I took a bit of time but the boys are buying into what we want to do and it is a squad thing, not the XI.

“We need everyone available, and on fire, especially over the Easter weekend with two games in three days.

“Everyone’s working well together and working for each other, from the players to the backroom staff, and it’s enjoyable when it’s like that.

“We’ve got a lot of experience and a lot of leaders, which makes my job easier, but they still need to be managed the right way, and that’s what we’re getting out of them.”

Lydd have two home games over the long weekend, facing Tunbridge Wells on Saturday and Kennington on Easter Monday (both 3pm).

Maximum points would do their play-off bid the power of good.

“The belief is there,” said Porter. “That was our goal when I walked through the door - to try and make the play-offs.

“I put that to them at every single training session and every single match day. Every game is a cup final - simple as that.

“We’ve crept up there and, other than Deal, we’re the form team in the division.

“It’s tough to play two games in three days at any level but we’re at home and we want six points.”
