Lydd were due to play away at VCD Athletic on Saturday in their first league game of the SCEFL Premier Division season.

Porter took charge of the Lydders in January - leaving Hollands & Blair for the chance to manage a club closer to home - replacing James Rogers after he stood down to concentrate on playing.

His first game in charge was against VCD and when taking over had an outside chance of making the play-offs. They finished the season 10th in the table.

Porter had been looking forward to a first full season in charge at the Lindsey Field, making a number of summer signings including prolific striker Ryan Philpott.

Both Porter and the club have been approached for comment following the resignation.

Last week, he said: “We’ve got experience, we’ve got youngsters, we’ve got a good squad.

“Whether it’s players who left of their own accord, or players I didn’t want, that’s football.

“I’ve got the players I want in the football club.”

Lydd’s final pre-season game of the summer was against FC Elmstead on Tuesday night. Porter’s side were leading 2-1 but floodlight issues led to the match being abandoned.
