Manager Ryan Smith hails his ‘band of brothers’ as Lydd Town boost SCEFL Premier Division survival hopes

Lydd Town’s ‘band of brothers’ have given themselves fresh hope of beating the drop.

The Lydders claimed their first league win since October with an unexpected 5-0 win at Glebe last weekend.

And they backed it up by holding leaders Faversham to a goalless draw on Wednesday night despite having Luke Burdon sent off midway through the second half.

Lydd remain bottom of the Southern Counties East Premier Division but are now only six points from safety.

They were on a run of six successive defeats before the win over Glebe which came courtesy of goals from Jerson Dos Santos (2), James Rogers, Will Dempsey and Ryan Philpott.

Charlie Dickens excelled as captain, while teenager Tristan Holden starred in midfield.

Lydd host high-flying Fisher at the Lindsey Field today (3pm).

“Saturday rejuvenated everyone,” said manager Ryan Smith, who found himself back in charge over Christmas and New Year after Nicky Southall’s ill-fated 39-day reign.

“I gave them a big speech before the game and they reacted to it. They were flawless.

“I said it isn’t about the club, it isn’t about Lydd, it’s about a group of friends.

“When someone’s down, you pick your mate back up.

“You don’t run past them, you don’t shout at them, you stand by them.

“We’re a band of brothers and that’s what it means to me.

“I don’t look at it as just football and the boys showed me they feel the same with the way they performed.

“We needed that win because we’ve been in a rut and we hadn’t won since October.

“The war cry now is everyone loves a comeback.

“We’ve got three games coming up after Fisher that are absolute do or die.”
