Scott Porter is the new boss of Lydd Town after James Rogers stepped down to concentrate on playing.

Porter, a former Lydd player, returns to the Lindsey Field after resigning as Hollands & Blair manager on Monday.

Rogers was working as joint-boss alongside Tom Wynter but, at 39, wants to enjoy his last few seasons as a player.

Wynter will be part of Porter’s management team but Rogers has stepped down entirely, while Mark Lane and Shaun Welford have followed the new boss from Blair.

Porter, a Kent League title winner with Hythe, inherits a side ninth in the Southern Counties East Premier Division after a 2-1 win at Holmesdale on Saturday.

His first game in charge will be at home to VCD on Saturday (3pm), followed by Tunbridge Wells away on Tuesday (7.45pm).

“With me still playing, it’s difficult to juggle it all,” said Rogers.

“It made sense when Ports became available to get him in.

“I think we’ve done a good job.

“We’ve won five out of our last seven and if we win our games in hand we’ll be in the play-offs so it’s been left in a good place.

“It’s no problem for me to go back to being a player.

“It’s a bit of a different environment at Lydd. We’re all close friends. It’s not just about the football, it’s about being around good people, and that’s the group we’ve got.

“We go out together, we drink together, we’re always together, so that’s how it works and nothing changes on that front.

“I know Ports quite well anyway, so he knows there won’t be any issues. I’m not that sort of person, so it won’t be a difficult transition.

“He’s the manager and he’ll have his own ideas, his own way of playing and players he wants to come and go.”

Troy Howard and Mitch Brundle struck in quick succession as Lydd came from a goal down to win at Holmesdale.

“It’s nice to finish on a win but it was a terrible game,” said Rogers.

“It’s a hard place to go. They get in your face, they’re loud and physical and you have to stand up to it.

“Not many teams will go there and get three points, so it’s a good result.

“We’ve been on a good little run. We’ve got everything to play for.”
