A water sports and inflatable aqua park attraction could be built on the outskirts of Sandwich.
Plans have been submitted to Dover District Council in the past week which, if they get the go ahead, will involve major excavation of the site at North Poulders, in Ash Road.
The development would be called North Poulders Field and would be located on the corner of Ash Road and the A256 Sandwich Bypass. Planned access for vehicles would be from Ash Road.
The scheme would attract wake boarders and provide other water-based activities.
It has been devised by Hume Planning Consultancy and images for the Aquapark section have been provided by Aquaglide, the company that supplies the equipment, and Kudos Architectural Design.
Computer Generated Images (CGIs), published to the council's planning portal, indicate the cost for the 32x21m Aquapark inflatable area would be around £46,761.
A site plan shows a reception building with ancillary uses, cable pulley system, inflatable aqua park and storage units, parking, landscaping and formation of a new site access from Ash Road.
Sandwich town council's planning committee recommended that the full council supports the application as statutory consultees. This is to be discussed at the authority's next full town council meeting on Monday, January 25.
Mayor Cllr Paul Graeme said: "From Sandwich's point of view we need to look to the future and this is an ideal way of encouraging tourism and making Sandwich prosperous when we get back to some sort of normality."
A 75-bed Travelodge hotel is being built nearby at Discovery Park. Completion was due in November and is now expected in March with a summer opening.
Public comments include support from the wakeboarding community.
Daniel Marsh said: "This is a fantastic idea which I very much hope will get the green light. Wakeboarding is a great sport for all abilities, but the barrier to entry in Kent is so high that it not available to most people, especially young people. This park would make it much more affordable and easier to access for young and old alike."
The scheme will be decided upon by planners at the district council.
