Funfair, carnival and river parade is all part of the fun at Sandwich Christmas lights switch-on
Published: 06:00, 30 November 2019
Community heroes will set off Sandwich’s Christmas lights tonight.
Charged with the task are Carol Philpott and Lisa Farnes, founders of the Sandwich Nostalgic and History Group, and Bob and Sheila Paige, whose annual wildlife calendar raises over £1,000 annually for Age Concern.
It is at 7pm at Guildhall Forecourt, followed at 9.30pm by Crazyboaters’ parade of illuminated vessels along the River Stour.
But the excitement starts much earlier in the day.
From 10am there will be hot food and drink stalls plus a funfair behind the Guildhall.
Live music starts at 1.30pm with a performance from Martin Farbrother and Hollie Firmin, followed by the Bettesteiner Footstompers at 4pm and Ozzie and the Uglies at 5pm.
At 6pm, a parade will commence through the streets starting from the back of the Guildhall.
It features carnival courts from around the coast and the Bloco Foggo Samba Band.
