Officers in the Sarah Everard murder case were this morning dredging drains.

Members of the Metropolitan Police were searching for a third day in the centre of Sandwich.

Beth Robson, reporter at the scene, observed them using a machine and scouring through the sludge once it was brought up.

This was at the Guildhall car park in Cattle Market.

Ms Robson said this morning: "They are lifting drain covers, pulling up everything inside and combing it finely to look for any clues."

Officers were particularly centred around Millwall, a pathed area surrounding a stream,and all its entrances and members of the public were being turned away from there.

Ms Robson added: "There has been a dredger arrived and I wonder if that has been used to dredge part of the stream or not been needed."

The Met had first appeared in Sandwich on Sunday in the latest of a series of Kent locations they have been in over the last week as their enquiries press on.

Divers were seen in the historic town's waterways and officers were also at The Ropewalk and the Co-operative car park.

Officers from the capital's police have poured into Kent since Sarah Everard, 33, vanished as she walked home to Brixton on March 3.

They arrested a suspect at his home in Freemen's Way, Deal, last Tuesday and Sarah was found dead near Great Chart, Ashford, the next day.

Police were still searching for clues at Great Chart yesterday.

The house at Freemen's Way today still has police guarding it but no longer has the two tents in the front garden used by officers in their work or a temporary metal fence that was blocking the view of the ground floor.

In addition they had been looking through the former BCB garage in Dover for several days which is where the accused man, Wayne Couzens, once worked.

Couzens, 48, a serving Metropolitan Police officer, has appeared at the Old Bailey today charged with kidnap and murder.
