A 30-year-old man has been arrested after a bottle of water was thrown through a town council's office window, leading to the building being shut for almost a week.

The incident happened shortly before 9am last Tuesday and forced the closure of Sandwich Guildhall, in Cattle Market.

Sandwich Town Council, whose offices are based within the Grade II*-listed building, took the decision to close it for safety reasons.

The building, which offers tourist information and is also used by private hirers, remained shut until yesterday (Monday).

Now, a man has been arrested and inquiries continue.

A spokesman said: "Kent Police was contacted at 8.35am on Tuesday, November 16 following a report that a bottle had been thrown through a window in Cattle Market, Sandwich.

"A review of local CCTV was carried out as part of an ongoing investigation and a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage before being released pending further enquiries."
