Fighter jets have caused a stir as they flew over a town.

Residents in Sandwich reported hearing a "roaring sound" as the F-15's soared overhead.

Witnesses saw the two fighter jets flying across the sky. One resident was fast enough to catch one on video this morning just before 10am.

Commenting on Facebook, one person said: "It was a massive noise, birds were flying everywhere and the dogs went absolutely loopy!"

Another added: "There were definitely two, I heard the first one and then got out to see the second go past."

Some speculated on social media that the noise could have belonged to Eurofighter Typhoons, but a video showing one of the jets shows an undercarriage resembling an F-15.

The twin-engined fighters, the full name for which is the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle, have a base cost of £73 million per plane.

Additionally, the latest model – the F-15EX – costs an additional £24,000 per hour of flight.

It is at least the second time in a few months that they have cause a stir in Kent's airspace, after a group of six were spotted over Ashford.

Two years prior, a huge RAF Atlas A400M was spotted over a large swathe of the county, including Faversham, Ashford and Hawkinge.

The enormous aircraft – with a 42-metre wingspan and 45.1-metre length – flew low over the areas, resulting in spectacular photographs.
